Basic income support Berlin: Umzugskracher is here for you
Anyone who relies on basic income support from the social welfare office (Sozialamt) must notify the office before the move and apply for a moving allowance. In doing so, the office can cover part of the costs.
How does a move work with basic income support?
The term for various social benefits is referred to as basic income support (Grundsicherung). The two forms of social assistance under § 12 of the German Social Code (SGB XII) are basic income support in old age and in the event of reduced earning capacity, and assistance with living expenses.
The point of contact here is usually the social welfare office (Sozialamt). It is distinguished from unemployment benefit II (Hartz IV), which is granted under the Second Book of the German Social Code (SGB II). The Jobcenter then takes care of the basic income support move in Berlin.

Basic income support move: Is electricity paid for with basic income support?
The electricity bill is included in the standard rate for social assistance/ALG II/social benefit and is part of the so-called “household energy”. Ancillary costs are generally to be paid in addition to the base price. For details, please refer to the accommodation charges.
Excessive electricity bills or debts can be reported to the social welfare office. Exceptions are permissible at the Jobcenter in the following cases:
Cash payments and outstanding electricity debts are generally offered as a loan; in rare cases, however, aid is granted, and partial loans and partial grants are also possible.
If the water heating is done electrically, you are entitled to an additional need allowance (Mehrbedarf). For apartments with electric heating, only the actual and reasonable heating costs are covered.
